Keep an eye on the hottest Euro 2012 matches: Spain vs. Italy, France vs. England, and Netherlands vs. Germany

Spain vs. Italy – June 9th 2012

One cannot ask for a better football match in the first three days of Euro 2012. It is a rematch between the last two World Cup winners. Moreover, it is a match between two powerhouse national teams. Italy should be entering this tournament with a chip on their shoulder, as they have had a spotty time lately on the international stage.

Italy drew with Serbia on October 7th 2011. Furthermore, their last two international matches have featured a draw against host nation Poland, a loss to Uruguay and a historic loss to the United States. A silver lining for the Italians is that they secured a 2-1 victory over Spain in August 2011. This recent result should make this matchup an intriguing one.

France vs. England – June 11th 2012

A lot of betting odds should be headed toward France. They are unbeaten in 18 consecutive matches. Two big-time results for France was a 1-0 win over Brazil in February 2011 and a recent 2-1 win over Germany two months ago. Karim Benzema and Chelsea’s Florent Malouda have provided the scoring for France during the qualifying phase. As for England, they have a new coach in Roy Hodgson as well as increased injuries worries.

Danny Welbeck took a terrible challenge from Manchester City player Nigel De Jong and is now questionable for Euro 2012. England knows that they will be without striker Wayne Rooney for the group stage. As essential as this match would be for France, it is just as pivotal for England as they look to win back the services of Wayne Rooney.

Netherlands vs. Germany – June 13th 2012

This may be the granddaddy of all the matches in the group stage. The Germans and the Dutch are the two marquee national teams in the toughest of all Euro 2012 groups. A slip-up of either one of these teams in a game can open the doors for a Portugal squad eager to take advantage. The prestige and powerhouse status of these two national teams speaks for itself.
