Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of defender Cesar Azpilicueta after his club Marseiller admitted they may sell the Spaniard this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo is on the look out for a new right back after Jose Bosingwa left the club and Paulo Ferreira is expected to follow him out the door this summer. This leaves Di Matteo short of options as he looks to find competition for Branislav Ivanovic and the Italian has identified Azpilicueta as a potential signing.
Marseille director Jose Anigo has now admitted that the £7m-rated Spanish international could be sold to raise funds for new signings.
‘Everybody has to sell before buying,’
‘In effect, it could either be (Stephane) M’Bia and Azpi. But for now, nothing has changed.’
Anigo is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail
The 22-year-old is currently in England with the Spain squad for the Olympic Games and was involved during last nights shock 1-0 defeat to Japan.
