Marseille president Vincet Labrune has denied reports suggesting Chelsea have agreed to sign full-back Cesar Azpilicueta, according to Sky Sports News.
The Blues have been heavily linked with the Spanish defender in recent weeks as boss Roberto Di Matteo searches to replace the departed Jose Bosingwa.
Reports claimed the European champions had finally managed to strike an €8m deal with Marseille after it emerged Labrune and sporting director Jose Anigo were in London this week.
However, the French club’s supremo has denied those reports insisting no deal is in place and claimed agents are the ones starting the rumours:
“I do not know who started this story, but they are totally wrong.
“It surely comes from agents that have an interest in the deal.
“Maybe they imagine that by running around making a noise about 8million euros it will make a difference, but it will not.
“For the moment nothing is happening.”

Labrune also revealed the club rejected a €4m [£3.2m] bid from the Blues last Friday:
“Last Friday, they [Chelsea] come to us with €4m [£3.2m], but we told them that is not a [good enough] offer,”

Azpilicueta is highly-rated in France but despite being capped at every youth level, he is yet to earn his first cap with the senior Spanish international side.

The player hinted he was set for a move to Chelsea after Marseille’s 2-0 win over Sochaux, claiming his move would ease the clubs financial difficulties, so despite Labrune’s protestations the defender is still expected to complete a move to Stamford Bridge before the window closes at the end of the month.
**UPDATE** The Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea have now completed the signing of Azpilicueta for £7m.
