Tottenham vs Chelsea: Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Tottenham Hotspur take on Chelsea at White Hart Lane this weekend. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score for the London derby.
Tottenham and Chelsea get back to action following the two week international break as the European champions make the short trip across London for Saturday’s early kick-off.
Chelsea captain John Terry serves the first game of his four-match ban after deciding not to appeal against the FA’s punishment for racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand 12 months ago.
The Blues have since confirmed they’ve handed out their own internal punishment to Terry but have refused to reveal whether he’ll hang on to the captaincy.
Andre Villas-Boas takes on his former side after being dismissed by Chelsea in March after a short spell in charge last season and will no doubt have a point to prove against his former employers.
AVB’s replacement at Stamford Bridge – Roberto Di Matteo – guided the club to their first European championship and will be looking to build on an excellent start to the new season that sees Chelsea unbeaten at the top of the table.
However, Chelsea will face an in-form Spurs side who’ve won their last four matches including an impressive 3-2 win away at Manchester United.
Team News
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas will continue to do without the services of Scott Parker who is out with an achilles injury and is expected to be out until Christmas.
Defenders Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul remain out with knee injuries, but there is better news on Jake Livermore and Kyle Naughton who are both back in training.
Gary Cahill is expected to replace the suspended John Terry and should partner David Luiz at the heart of Chelsea’s defence.
Frank Lampard missed both England World Cup qualifiers with a calf injury but is expected to return after taking part in two training sessions this week.
Ryan Bertrand also missed the England games through illness but is again expected to be in contention against Spurs.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Tottenham haven’t been beaten at home by the Blues in their previous six encounters, with three wins and three draws, and we can see the Lillywhites extending that run to seven matches, but Chelsea will still take something away from White Hart Lane. Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea
