Arsenal are closing in on the signing of £15m-rated Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler as boss Arsene Wenger prepares to spent his £70m transfer fund to bring the glory days back to north London, according to the Express.
Draxler has emerged as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in German football after breaking into the Schalke first team in January 2011 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit. The 19-year-old is now regarded as a first team regular and has scored 11 goals in his 34 games so far this campaign and has also forced his way into the German national team set up, earning 4 caps so far.
It seems his form has alerted Wenger with the Express claiming the Gunners boss has sent scouts to run-the-rule over the talented midfielder on several occasions this season.
The report suggests Arsene is ready to splash the cash this summer and will pay what’s required to land his top targets, and the newspaper believes we’re close to sealing a deal that would see Draxler move to the Emirates in a deal worth around £15m.

While I feel we should be concentrating on more established players this summer, if we’re going to spend serious money on a youngster then Draxler would be a great addition. He’s got everything required to become a world class player and I’d love to see how he’d develop under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger.
The reported £15m would big money for us, so if the boss does spent that kind of fee he must be confident of Draxler’s ability. But it’s all paper talk for now so let’s see if this one comes off at the end of the season.
