Reports in Italy claim Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is in London to finalise the sale of striker Edinson Cavani to Chelsea in a €58m (£49m) deal.
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, is Edinson Cavani on the verge of moving to Chelsea?
Some interesting developments on the future of Edinson Cavani with reports in Italy claiming that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is in London to finalise the sale of the hitman to Chelsea in a €58m (£49m) deal.
Cavani has emerged as one of the world’s most sought-after strikers after scoring 104 goals in just 138 appearances for Napoli since joining from Palermo, but it seems his time in Serie A is up and he could be set for a move to the Premier League.
Italian media outlet tuttonapoli are carrying quotes from journalist Raffaele Auriemma who claims that Napoli president De Laurentiis returned from a holiday in the US and was due to arrive in London on Wednesday or Thursday to complete the sale of Cavani to Chelsea in a deal worth a staggering €58m (£49m) plus bonuses. Here’s a translation:
“President De Laurentiis has just returned from the United States but Wednesday or Thursday will go to London to sell Cavani to Chelsea. From what I know, the Blues will pour into the coffers blue about 58milioni euro plus bonus. ” Auriemma is quoted as saying by tuttonapoli
Other Italian outlets such as Calciomercato have also been running a similar story while British newspaper the Mirror are reporting that the Blues will meet with Napoli officials in the next 24 hours to discuss the signing of the 26-year-old, so there certainly seems to be something going on.
Cavani is currently away on international duty at the Confederations Cup so you’d think that any potential deal would have to wait until the tournament is over before it could be completed, but the prospect of the hitman moving to west London is certainly mouthwatering for Blues fans.
Should Chelsea manage to secure the Uruguayan’s services, they would finally have a world class striker to spearhead the attack and Cavani would create a deadly front-line alongside Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge next season. But nothing is official yet, so watch this space….
