David Villa Agrees Terms With Tottenham
David Villa has edged a step closer to joining Tottenham after agreeing personal terms with the club but Spurs are refusing to meet Barca’s £8.6m asking price
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, David Villa edges closer to Tottenham move.
David Villa has edged a step closer to joining Tottenham after agreeing personal terms with the club but Spurs are still refusing to meet Barcelona’s £8.6m asking price, according to the Mirror.
The Spanish hitman is expected to leave the Nou Camp this summer in search of first team football after struggling to regain his place in Tito Vilanova’s starting eleven last season having returned from a broken leg.
Several teams have been credited with an interest in the 31-year-old in recent weeks but it appears Spurs are now in the driving seat with the Mirror claiming the north Londoners have now got an agreement in place with the player and he could make the move to White Hart Lane this week if the two clubs can settle on a fee.
The report suggests Tottenham are refusing to meet Barca’s £8.6m asking price with chairman Daniel Levy said to be confident of securing a better deal as the Catalans are keen to get Villa’s £110,000-a-week wages off their books.
The former Valencia man has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Nou Camp but Barca’s want to sell him now rather than pay his wages for another year only to lose him for nothing next summer, and Spurs are keen to take advantage of the situation.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas is aiming to strengthen his strike-force this summer after narrowly missing out on Champions League football last season, and Villa would certainly give them a potent threat up front. Spain’s all-time leading goal-scorer has been prolific wherever’s he’s played and career stats of 282 goals in 575 makes for impressive reading.
