Arsenal Beat Rivals To Bernard Signature With Brazilian Set For Medical This Friday
Arsenal have won the race to sign highly-rated Brazilian winger Bernard with French outlet L’Equipe claiming he’s set to undergo a medical in London this Friday
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal close in on Bernard.
It appears Arsenal have won the race to sign highly-rated Brazilian attacker Bernard with French outlet L’Equipe claiming he’s set to undergo a medical in London this Friday.
Reports over the weekend claimed the Gunners had beaten off stiff competition from the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool to the 20-year-old’s signature after agreeing a £21m deal with Atletico Mineiro.
L’Equipe have now backed-up these reports after reporting today that Bernard is due to arrive in London on Thursday evening ahead of a medical this Friday after agreeing terms over a five-year deal worth £3m net per season.
The Brazilian international is set to play his final game for Mineiro on Wednesday night when he plays in the final of the Copa Libertadore before flying over to the UK to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium.
Bernard is a pacey winger who predominantly plays on the left wing but is capable of playing anywhere across the front line behind the striker, so he will give Arsene Wenger plenty of options if he does end up making the move to north London.
Arsenal fans have been crying out for the club to make some big-name signings this summer and Bernard would certainly be an exciting addition, with his arrival most likely leading to Gervinho sealing a move away from the Emirates this summer.
However, until there is something official on Arsenal.com we have to treat this as nothing more than speculation, but hopefully Arsenal fans will have something to smile about by the end of the week.
