Rooney Willing To Join Arsenal As Champions Refuse To Do Business With Chelsea
Unsettled striker Wayne Rooney would be willing to join Arsenal if Manchester United refuse to sell him to Chelsea this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Wayne Rooney would consider a switch to Arsenal.
Wayne Rooney would be willing to join Arsenal if Manchester United refuse to sell him to Chelsea this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old’s future has come under scrutiny in recent months after former boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he had asked for a transfer towards the end of last season, and the former Everton man was left “angry and confused” by David Moyes’ comments that suggested he was now considered as back up to Robin van Persie.
Chelsea have made public their desire to take Rooney to Stamford Bridge and have already had an opening bid of £23m plus £2.5m in add ons rejected last week, but Arsenal have also been credited with an interest with boss Arsene Wenger trying to bring in some marquee names this summer.
The Mail claim Rooney’s first choice would be to link up with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea but United are refusing to do business with the Blues as they see them as a serious contender for the Premier League title next season and it’s understood the striker would be willing to move to Arsenal if a move to west London continues to stall.
The newspaper claims Arsenal first made contact about Rooney when he was controversially left out of United’s starting eleven to face Real Madrid back in March and the Gunners have indicated they’d be willing to offer the striker a five-year deal worth £200,000 a week with Wenger supposedly telling the player he’s ready to build his team around him.
Chelsea are still considered as front-runners for Rooney’s signature but the report suggests Roman Abramovich has set a limit of £30m for the striker and if United reject that bid and refuse to sell to the Blues, it could open the door to a switch to the Emirates with Rooney and his family said to be keen on making the move to London.
Arsenal are clearly in need of a big name striker this summer and they saw a fresh £40m + £1 offer for Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool on Tuesday, and although they’ve now been given permission to talk with the player as per the clause in his contract, the Merseysiders are determined not to sell him to a domestic rival and are understood to be demanding in excess of £50m which could see Arsene Wenger switch his focus to Rooney.
