Barca ‘Not Bothered’ About United’s Interest As They Insist Fabregas Wont Be Sold
Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again told Man Utd that midfielder Cesc Fabregas is not for sale this summer, according to the BBC.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Barcelona insist Cesc Fabregas wont be sold.
Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again insisted that midfielder Cesc Fabregas is not for sale this summer, according to the BBC.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League just two years after leaving Arsenal for Barcelona, with his time in Spain not going according to plan as he’s struggled to establish himself as an important player in the starting eleven and when he does play, he’s often played in unfamiliar positions.
Manchester United have already had two bids turned down for the Spanish International and boss David Moyes declared on Thursday that the champions pursuit of the midfielder was “ongoing”.
However, Bartomeu was in defiant mood today as he reiterated the Spaniards desire to hang on to Fabregas, claiming they’re not bothered by United’s interest and the player would not be sold even if a higher offer comes in.
“United’s interest for Cesc Fabregas is obvious, he’s a great player but it does not bother us.
“It does not matter what they offer us, we are not selling him.”
“If there was a higher offer would we accept it? No. We’re proud that a club like that wants one of our players,” Bartomeu is quoted as saying by the BBC
Reports in Friday morning’s British press suggested that Fabregas has told close friends he wanted to return to the Premier League this summer and was open to moving to Old Trafford to link up with former Arsenal team mate Robin van Persie.
Arsenal are still keeping a close eye on their former skippers situation as well with boss Arsene Wenger confirming the north Londoners have a buy-back clause – although the exact details of the clause are unclear – and the Frenchman hinted he would be on the case should Fabregas decide he wants a move.
But it seems the Catalans have no intention of letting the midfielder leave so unless Fabregas is willing to try and force things – which is highly unlikely give the fuss he made about moving back to the Nou Camp two years ago – it looks like he wont be making his way back to England this summer.
