Arsenal Prepare Improved Offer For Suarez As Real Madrid Contact Strikers Agent
Arsenal are set to table an improved offer for Luis Suarez after the striker held talks with Liverpool on Thursday, but Real Madrid may yet hijack the move.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on the future of Luis Suarez.
Arsenal are set to table an improved offer for Luis Suarez after the striker held talks with Liverpool on Thursday, but Real Madrid may yet hijack the move, according to the Guardian.
The newspaper claims that the 26-year-old held showdown talks with manager Brednan Rodgers and chief executive Ian Ayre on Thursday and the club has refused to discuss how the meeting went. This lack of clarity has been interpreted by Arsenal as a positive sign that Suarez remains determined to force a move away from Anfield, because if he showed any willingness to stay, the Merseysiders would have been quick to publicise it.
Arsenal’s last offer of £40,000,001 was met with contempt by Liverpool but the Guardian claim it was a strategic move to test the players contract clause and now that Liverpool have made it clear it isn’t a release clause, the Gunners are now ready to go back in with an improved bid to further test their resolve to hang on to the unsettled striker.
Whether Suarez has been given permission to hold formal talks with Arsene Wenger yet is still open to debate. The BBC, and several other newspapers, claim he has, but the Guardian insist Liverpool have NOT given the player permission to speak with the north Londoners yet and they won’t unless a suitable bid is submitted.
The report also suggests that while Suarez is agitating for a move, he’s unlikely to hand in a formal transfer request any time soon as Real Madrid have now made contact with his agent to express their interest and told him not to make any hasty decisions.
The Spaniard’s have recently agreed to sell striker Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli for £32m and although their priority remains trying to lure Gareth Bale from Tottenham, if that move doesn’t come off they may well turn their attentions to Suarez.
It leaves the situation finely balanced and Arsenal will no doubt be keen to get things resolved quickly before Madrid come sniffing – which would explain why they’re preparing a new and improved bid. However, if Madrid express there interest to Liverpool, the Merseysiders are likely to be far more receptive to the La Liga club as Brendan Rodgers would no doubt prefer to sell Suarez abroad rather than to a domestic rival.
