Transfer News: Spurs Eye Mata | Arsenal Linked With £38m Bid For German Playmaker
Latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham are linked with an audacious move for Chelsea’s Juan Mata while Arsenal are lining up a £38million bid for Mesut Ozil.
As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Spurs are linked with Chelsea’s Juan Mata while Arsenal are lining up a bid for Mesut Ozil.
Spurs eye Mata
First up and the Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham are lining up an audacious move for Chelsea attacker Juan Mata after losing out to their London rivals for the signature of Willian.
Andre Villas-Boas’ side are set to bring in a world record fee once the protracted sale of Gareth Bale is finalised and the Mail claim they have identified Mata an the ideal replacement for the Welshman.
Mata’s future has come under scrutiny in recent weeks following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager and speculation over his role at the club increased further following the arrival of Willian.
The newspaper suggests that Spurs are ready to make a surprise bid to try and lure him to north London with the promise of regular first team football – which could be important in a World Cup year. However, let’s be honest, it’s highly unlikely Mata is going to accept a move to White Hart Lane as they can’t offer Champions League football, while Chelsea are also unlikely to sell – despite question marks over his future.
Arsenal linked with Ozil
Next up and the Sun are claiming that Arsenal are ready to make a sensational £38m move for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil.
It’s been a hugely frustrating summer in north London with boss Arsene Wenger missing out on a number of transfer targets, leading to increased pressure from the fans for the club to spend during the final week of the window.
Wenger has admitted he’s in the market for new signings and the Sun claim he’s set his sights on Ozil, who could be surplus to requirements once Madrid complete their protracted move for Gareth Bale and a £38m bid has been mooted.
Arsenal have also been linked with Ozil’s team-mates Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema, but the newspaper suggests that the German international is now also on Wenger’s radar as he looks to bring in a marquee name.
The Emirates faithful would surely be delighted if the club could lure any one of the three Madrid players they’ve been linked with, but it remains to be seen if they can pull it off. With just a week remaining until the transfer window shuts, time is running out for Wenger to spend his millions.
