Romanian Striker Set To Snub Arsenal & Tottenham Move?
Arsenal and Tottenham could be set to miss out on the signing of Ciprian Marica with reports claiming that Rayo Vallecano are set to sign the striker this week.
Despite the summer transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, are Arsenal and Tottenham set to miss out on Ciprian Marica?
Arsenal and Tottenham could be set to miss out on the signing of Ciprian Marica with talkSPORT reporting that La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano are now the favourites to sign the striker on a free transfer.
Marica became a free agent at the end of last season when Schalke terminated the final year of his contract and he’s been linked with a whole host of European clubs throughout the summer.
Among the interested parties are Premier League duo Arsenal and Tottenham and his agent, Ioan Becali, claimed last month that the 27-year-old was close to a move to the Emirates Stadium:
“He is close to Arsenal. We’ll see this week.”
“Marica is a very good striker, a Romanian international and very experienced in western European football.
“It is normal that he is targeted by big clubs, all the more so after he has completed his contract with Schalke.”

However, a move failed to materialise and the player revealed last Thursday that he was in negotiations with three clubs – now believed to be Arsenal, Tottenham and Vallecano – and confirmed he’d make his decision over who his next team would be by the end of this week:
“I am in negotiations with three teams.
“I hope I will be able to tell you the name of my next team by the end of next week.” Marica is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
Reports on Monday suggested Spurs may have moved to the front of the queue but talkSPORT are reporting today that the striker is now edging towards a move to Spain with Vallecano believed to be the heavy favourites and are expected to secure his signature in the coming days.
If true, you’d have to assume Marica has opted to join the La Liga club ahead of Arsenal or Spurs to secure more regular first team football. It’s unlikely Rayo would be able to compete on a financial front with the north London duo, so the player may have been promised more regular action Campo de Vallecas.
