Arsenal To Table Improved Offer For Man Utd Target After Seeing £12.5m Bid Rejected
Arsenal will table an improved offer for Antoine Griezmann after Real Sociedad rejected their £12.5m bid but they could still face competition from Man Utd.
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Arsenal and Man Utd are linked with Antoine Griezmann.
Arsenal are ready to go back in with an improved offer for Antoine Griezmann after Real Sociedad rejected their opening £12.5m bid but they could still face competition from Manchester United, according to reports in France.
Reports last week claimed that the Gunners had seen their £12.5m offer rejected out of hand with Sociedad demanding the north Londoners meet the 22-year-old’s £25m buy-out fee in full.
This doesn’t appear to have put Arsene Wenger off though, with French media outlet Le10 Sport claiming today that he will return with an improved offer before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
However, the Premier League leaders might not have a clear run at the attacking midfielder with the newspaper suggesting that Manchester United are showing an interest in luring Griezmann to England, while PSG are also believed to be keeping tabs on the youngster.
The player alerted potential suitors over the weekend when he admitted he wants to play for a ‘leading European team’ but insists he’s not held talks with any other clubs yet.
“I am relaxed about my future at the moment.
“I have not had talks with other clubs yet. This is something to look at. I want to play for a leading European team and I hope this can help get me a place in the France team.” Griezmann is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Arsenal are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League but could do with another attacker in their ranks following the news that Theo Walcott will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Griezmann would certainly be able to fill the goal threat left by the England ace with the winger scoring an impressive 12 goals in just 16 league appearances so far this season.
He wouldn’t be considered as a direct replacement for Walcott though, as Griezmann predominantly plays on the left side of midfield – although he is capable of playing in the No.10 role or even up front if required.
He would also be an excellent addition to the United squad as they too are on the look-out for reinforcements following a disappointing first season under David Moyes. The defending champions have certainly lacked creativity in midfield and Griezmann could be the man to add that missing spark.
However, it seems the duo will have to dig deep if they want to land the talented attacker, with Sociedad not willing to let their star man go without a fight.
