Rodgers Makes Opening £7m Bid For Arsenal And Chelsea Target
Liverpool are hoping to seal a deal for Arsenal and Chelsea target Romulo with Brendan Rodgers tabling an opening bid of £7million for the midfielder.
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Liverpool have made a move for Brazilian midfielder Romulo.
Liverpool are hoping to seal a deal for Arsenal and Chelsea target Romulo with the Express claiming Brendan Rodgers has tabled an opening bid of £7m for the midfielder.
The Reds have been forced to try and add to their midfield options following the news that Lucas Leiva will miss the next two months with a knee injury and it seems Rodgers has identified Romulo as the man for the job.
The Express cite reports coming out of Russia that claim Rodgers has made contact with Spartak Moscow over the Brazilian international and is hoping his £7m opening bid will be enough to land the midfield enforcer.
It remains to be seen whether Spartak are willing to let Romulo leave but the feeling is it may take a bid nearer to £10m to persuade them to cash in.
The newspaper suggests that the 23-year-old has previously been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Chelsea with the London duo apparently scouting the midfielder in the past, but it appears he could now be heading to Anfield if the Merseysiders can strike a deal.
Romulo has only recently returned from a serious knee injury so his signing would be something of a gamble if Liverpool do manage to pull if off. The former Vasco Da Gama midfielder moved to Spartak in 2012 in a deal worth around £6.5m but injury has meant he’s been restricted to just a handful of appearances so perhaps the Russian club may decide to cut their loses and sell.
The player had just broken into the Brazilian national team set up before he picked up his knee injury, and had 8 caps to his name before he was sidelined, so he’s certainly got the talent. The big question mark will be whether his fitness is up up to scratch yet and whether he’ll be able to cut it in the Premier League.
