Wenger Held Talks With Van Persie’s Agent Last Month To Discuss Summer Transfer
Some news coming out of Italy with Sky Italia claiming that Arsene Wenger met with Robin van Persie’s agent last month to discuss a move back to the Emirates
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, could Robin van Persie be heading back to Arsenal?
Some sensational news coming out of Italy today with Sky Italia claiming that Arsene Wenger met with Robin van Persie’s agent last month to discuss a move back to the Emirates this summer.
Van Persie became public enemy No.1 in north London when he forced a move to Old Trafford in 2012, before going on to win the Premier League title in his first season after scoring 26 goals in 38 appearances.
However, a series of niggling injuries have hampered his progress this season with United struggling under the stewardship of David Moyes, and now there are rumours that he’s looking to jump ship and head back to the Emirates.
Sky Italia journalist Tancredi Palmeri has claimed this afternoon on his weekly podcast (you can listen to it here) that RVP’s agent, Kees Vos, met with Arsene Wenger in a London hotel on the 28th January to inform him the striker is unhappy at United and wants to rejoin Arsenal at the end of the season.
Palmeri goes on to suggest that Wenger made it clear he was interested in taking the Dutchman back and when Vos returned to United to tell them his client wanted to leave, United apparently told him they wouldn’t stand in his way even if it meant selling him back to Arsenal.
If true, all the pieces are in place for a sensational summer deal with only the transfer fee likely to prove a stumbling block, but it will cause shock-waves in both London and Manchester if this proposed transfer goes through.
Arsenal fans are still reeling from Van Persie deserting them 18 months ago and it might be difficult for the 30-year-old to win-over some sections of the Emirates faithful if he does end up making the move back.
United fans are also unlikely to be best pleased if Moyes decides to sell one of their key players to a direct rival, particularly given how poorly their season is likely to end up.
Obviously we’re still some way off a deal and this is only coming from an Italian-based journalist, but he was adamant that his sources are reliable so you never know, this one could actually happen this summer.
