Man Utd Join Arsenal In Hunt For £10m-Rated Defender After Moyes Scouting Trip
Man Utd have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Freiburg centre-back Matthias Ginter after David Moyes flew to Germany to watch the player in action on Friday
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd enter the chase for Matthias Ginter.
Manchester United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign highly-rated Freiburg centre-back Matthias Ginter after David Moyes flew to Germany to watch the player in action on Friday night, according to the Mirror.
United are in the market for at least one centre-back this summer with Nemanja Vidic set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and it seems Moyes is looking to the Bundesliga for a replacement.
The Mirror claims that the Scot continued his European scouting mission by flying out to Germany last night to watch Hertha Berlin take on Freiburg, where he cast his eye over talented central defender Ginter.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated defenders in his homeland since breaking into the first team in 2012, and he’s gone on to make over 50 appearances for Freiburg and earned his first call-up to the senior Germany squad yesterday.
The newspaper suggests that Arsenal have also been strongly linked with the player in the past and it will take on offer in the region of £10m to persuade his current club to cash-in.
United don’t have a game this weekend as their Manchester derby was called off due to City’s involvement in the Capital One Cup final, so it seems Moyes has taken advantage by scouting for potential new signings ahead of what promises to be a busy summer at Old Trafford.
The soon to be former-champions will certainly have to replace Vidic, but they may need further reinforcements at the back if Rio Ferdinand also leaves the club when his contract expires in June.

Ginter could be an excellent addition with the 6ft 2″ defender showing huge potential so far in his career, and he’s expected to be sold if struggling Freiburg get relegated fro the Bundesliga this season, although United could yet face competition from within Germany as well as Arsenal if the player becomes available.
