Transfer News: €45m-Rated Attacker Tipped To Reject Move
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a €45m-rated attacking midfielder. Find out who the player in question is here
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea receive a blow in their pursuit of Julian Draxler.
Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea have received a blow in their pursuit of Julian Draxler with Schalke supremo Horst Heldt insisting the €45m-rated attacker will reject the chance to leave the club this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Draxler has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after players since breaking onto the scene as a 17-year-old in 2011, and he’s gone on to make over 140 appearances for the Schalke first team as well as earn 10 caps for the German national side.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 20-year-old over the past two transfer windows and were understood to be in deep negotiations over his signature in January before Arsene Wenger refused to meet his €45m (£37m) asking price.
The Gunners are expected to renew their interest at the end of the season but will now face stiff competition from Chelsea with Jose Mourinho also believed to be keeping a close eye on the attacker, while it was reported last month that Manchester United boss David Moyes was hoping to lure him to Old Trafford as part of his summer rebuilding project.
However, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt is confident Draxler will turn down the chance to make a big-money move this summer to remain at the Veltins-Arena next season.
“I definitely believe that he will be staying at our club for the new season.
“Julian (Draxler) is an important player in our squad, he is playing regular matches and he is doing quite well.” Heldt is quoted as saying by the Star.
Draxler still has four years left on his current deal so Schalke are under no pressure to sell for anything less than his buy out fee, which stands at €45m (£37m). Should the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or United meet that figure, the German outfit would be helpless to stop him leaving if the player decided he wanted a new challenge.
The youngster is expected to be among Joachim Loews 23-man squad for this summers World Cup and a positive showing in Brazil is only going to see the interest in him intensify, so you’d think Wenger, Mourinho and Moyes would be wise to make their move early in the summer to avoid facing even more competition.
It remains to be seen whether any of the trio will be willing to meet Draxler’s release clause, but they’d be signing a sensational talent if any of the clubs do manage to pull of his signature this summer. He’s powerful for his age, is good with both feet, has an eye for goal, and certainly has the talent to become a real super-star, so I hope we see him plying his trade in England next season.
