Arsenal are the odds on favourites ahead of rivals Tottenham to sign £10m-rated Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy this summer, according to reports today.
The France international has just enjoyed an excellent season-long loan at Newcastle United where he scored 14 goals in his 26 appearances to help the Geordies to a mid-table finish, and understandably Alan Pardew is keen to sign the striker on a permanent basis this summer.
However, the Daily Star claim that Remy has made it clear he isn’t interested in returning to St James’ Park as he wants to join a club who compete in Europe, and it seems he’s going to have at least three options here in the Premier League.
The newspaper suggests that Arsenal are the firm favourites to land Remy ahead of the likes of Tottenham and Everton, who are also understood to be keen on signing the 27-year-old. Some bookmakers have the Gunners at 1/3 on to sign the former Marseille hitman, with Everton trailing on 6/1 and Spurs even further back at 8/1.
Arsene Wenger is expected to be in the market for another striker this summer after seeing his sides title charge derailed by a lack of depth in the attacking areas and Remy would certainly add something different to the north Londoners front-line if they manage to secure his signature.
The big advantage Arsenal have over the competition is that they can offer Champions League football and Remy’s idol growing up was Gunners legend Thierry Henry, so I’m sure he’d jump at the chance of following in his compatriot’s footsteps.
Spurs and Everton are seemingly waiting in the wings hoping any potential deal to the Emirates falls through, and both clubs will be able to off Europa League football after their 5th and 6th placed finishes respectively.

Remy is currently valued at around £10m but he’s been named in Didier Deschamps French World Cup squad and a positive showing in Brazil will not only drive his price up but also increase the competition in his signature, so the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Everton may want to try and get a deal tied up quickly to avoid a bidding war.
