Arsenal ‘In Talks’ With Agent Of Senegalese International
The Daily Star are carrying quotes from an agent who claims that Arsenal are in talks over the potential signing of Senegalese defender Cheikhou Kouyate.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with a Senegalese defender.
The Daily Star are carrying quotes from an agent who claims that Arsenal are in talks over the potential signing of Senegalese defender Cheikhou Kouyate.
The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League back in January with both Arsenal and Liverpool understood to have made enquiries over his availability during the winter window. In the end, a move to England failed to materialise and Kouyate remained at Anderlecht where he’s continued to impress during the second half of the season.
It seems Arsenal have now renewed their interest in the powerful centre-back with the players agent Saffet Balkan claiming that he has met with representatives from the north London club and held talks over a potential move.
However, the Gunners aren’t going to have a free run at the player as Balkan suggests West Ham, CSKA Moscow and Galatasaray are also keen on signing the defender. He said:
“I have met representatives from Arsenal and West Ham over Kouyate in Belgium. We are currently in talks.
“I will also meet with representatives from Galatasaray and CSKA in Istanbul later today to discuss an offer for Kouyate,” Balkan is quoted as saying by the Star.
Arsene Wenger is likely to be on the look-out for another centre-back in case Thomas Vermaelen leaves the club this summer, and Kouyate would be be an interesting addition. He’s a beast of a defender, standing at 6 foot 4 inches, and is well built so he should be able to cope with the physical nature of the Premier League.

He’d almost certainly be asked to play second fiddle to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny if he does make the move to Arsenal, but the chances of a move have been heightened with the player recently securing a Belgian passport so he wont require a work permit.
