Tottenham Team News: Pochettino Confirms Major Injury Boost Ahead Of Real Madrid

Mauricio Pochettino has said he’s confident Harry Kane will be fit and available for selection for Tottenham’s huge Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Spurs welcome the reigning European champions to Wembley on Wednesday night looking for a win that would all-but secure their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Kane was considered as a major doubt for the game after missing Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon with a hamstring injury that he picked up during the injury during the 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool nine days ago.

However, the England international handed the north Londoners a huge boost by returning to full training this afternoon and Pochettino has now confirmed the striker could face Madrid tomorrow.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Pochettino told reporters that he was ‘very confident’ Kane would be available but he will make a final decision tomorrow.

The Spurs boss is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:

“We are very confident [Kane will play]. He is on the list, we have one day more to assess him.

“I think maybe it can be possible he will be available to play tomorrow, but I don’t want to be 100 per cent sure about that decision, because we have one day more.

“Today and yesterday were good in training. Now with the medical staff, we will try to make the right decision, because it is important to make the right decision for tomorrow.”

“He was training with the group and was good, the same level as the team. We must know now, the feeling from him today, after tonight, how he is going to feel, and then to take the best decision for him, first of all, and then for the team.”

Kane’s return to fitness would give Tottenham a major boost as they’ve sorely missed their star striker over the past two games during defeats to United and West Ham.

Heung-min Son was deployed as a make-shift forward at Old Trafford but it didn’t really work so Spurs would love to see Kane leading the line against Madrid tomorrow night.

However, I’m sure Pochettino won’t take any unnecessary risks with the striker as the last thing they want is to aggravate the injury and see Kane ruled out for even longer.

Elsewhere, Tottenham will continue to be without Victor Wanyama due to an on-going knee injury but Erik Lamela is edging closer to making his comeback as he took part in full training this afternoon.
