Liverpool & Arsenal make move to sign Zion Suzuki

Liverpool and Arsenal have reportedly made a move to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, as per TEAMtalk.

Since moving to Anfield from AS Roma, Alisson Becker has been an undisputed starter in goal. He has even enjoyed great success over the years, winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and several other major cup competitions.

However, the 34-year-old’s long-term future is currently uncertain at the Merseyside club as his existing deal is set to expire at the end of this campaign.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that although Liverpool already have Giorgi Mamardashvili, they don’t consider him as Alisson’s long-term replacement. So, the Reds have started exploring options in the market and have been impressed by Suzuki’s recent promising performances.

They have already made checks on a potential move. However, Liverpool will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Arsenal and Manchester City have been making checks on him but they see him as an option for the future.

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on him as a potential replacement for Antonin Kinsky. Moreover, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are in this race.

On the other hand, the report state that Aston Villa have no intention of parting ways with him, having recently purchased him.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2031, Aston Villa want a record fee if they are forced to sell him. Kepa Arrizabalaga’s move to Chelsea from Athletic Club in a £70m deal is currently the record transfer for a goalkeeper.

Suzuki is a 6ft 2in tall right-footed goalkeeper. He is comfortable playing out from the back, can play the sweeper-keeper role, is a good shot-stopper and good in the air.

Arsenal currently have David Raya, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Illan Meslier as goalkeeping options. Therefore, the Gunners don’t need to invest more to add further depth to this position.

Suzuki is a highly talented goalkeeper and hasn’t reached his prime yet. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Anfield club eventually manage to lure him away from Villa Park by defeating other clubs in this race.
