The pressure increased on Jose Mourinho’s shoulders even further after Chelsea crashed out of the Capital One Cup following a penalty shoot out defeat to Stoke City on Tuesday night.

After a goalless first half, the hosts took the lead when Jonathan Walters crashed one in off the bar from the edge of the area in the 52nd minute.

The hosts looked like they had secured a narrow 1-0 win but Chelsea equalised in stoppage time when Loic Remy was on hand to fire home in to the roof of the net for 1-1.

Stoke were then reduced to 10-men when Phil Bardsley was sent off for a second bookable offence but the Potters held on in extra-time to send the game to penalties.

After all nine players had scored before him, it was down to Eden Hazard to try and level things up a 5-5 in the shoot-out but the Belgian international saw his spot kick spectacularly saved by Jack Butland to send the holders crashing out.
