Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has been speaking out about his injury woes and admitted he may not make his comeback until February.

Welbeck has been on the sidelines since suffering what was initially thought to be a relatively minor knee injury during our 0-0 draw with Chelsea back in April.

The injury turned out to be far more serious than first thought and the 25-year-old was ruled out for the remainder of the year after undergoing surgery in September.

The Evening Standard reported last week that Welbeck was progressing well and was on course to make his return next month. However, the attacker has now revealed that it could be February until we see him in an Arsenal shirt again.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Welbeck admitted that it’s been a frustrating time for him on the sidelines but he insists he’s not prepared to rush back and has no specific comeback date in mind.

He said:

“It’s going pretty well. I think with the way it’s going now I’m more positive with things and can’t wait to get back on the pitch.

“It’s a pretty serious injury and it’s difficult to go through those tough periods but it’s part and parcel of football.

“I think it has been frustrating, before I had the surgery I was trying to get back fit, but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

“I’ve said the new year, January or February, but there’s no exact date yet, I’ve just got to make sure I’m 100 per cent when I come back. Obviously I don’t want to come back too soon, and make the injury worse.

“I can’t look too far ahead, I think the most important thing to me is to get back and show what I can do for Arsenal.”

So it looks as though we’re just going to have to wait and see how Danny’s recover progresses in the New Year but it would be disappointing if he isn’t on the pitch until February.

We’ve really missed Welbeck’s versatility in attack but fingers crossed he can get himself back fit again next month and play a major role during the second half of the season.
