Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has fuelled rumours he’s ready to make a swoop on Leicester City for £20m midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer, according to the Mirror.

Kante has just come off the back of a sensational debut season in England that saw him drive Leicester to a shock Premier League title win thanks to his tireless performances in the middle of the park.

The French international’s impressive displays saw him named in the PFA Team of the Season and he’s attracting plenty of interest in his services with the Sun claiming earlier this week that Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs keen on luring him away from the King Power.

The newspaper suggests that Chelsea have already held extensive talks with Kante’s camp over a potential move to Stamford Bridge with incoming boss Antonio Conte looking to put his stamp on the squad after being named as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor.

However, the Sun state that Arsenal are ‘desperate’ to land Kante despite bringing in Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka just a few weeks ago, and Arsene Wenger has fuelled that speculation after confirming he’s a huge admirer of the 25-year-old.

The Gunners boss is quoted by the Mirror as saying that Kante has ‘incredible quality’ and his natural ‘feel’ for the game is a rare thing to find in a central midfielder.

“I admire and like N’Golo Kanté a lot. It gives you ideas. He gives you the feeling that the higher the level he plays at, the more at ease he is.

“We are talking about numbers. He has the most interceptions in Europe and by far.

“He has incredible quality. He feels the game, only very few people can do that. He’s always where he needs to be.

“It is very rare to have that in the central midfielder. Not always orthodox, but always in the right place.”

Leicester are understandably desperate to keep hold of the midfielder but the Mirror claim he has a £20m release clause written in to his contract so there is little the Foxes can do to prevent him leaving if the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea meet that figure.

Wenger is clearly a huge fan but it would be interesting to see how Kante would fit in at Arsenal if he was signed this summer as the Gunners already have a vast array of talent available in the middle of the park.

Xhaka is competing for two midfield spots along with Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny so you’d imagine one of those six would have to leave in order to make way for Kante’s arrival.

However, as of now Arsenal are yet to make their interest official so Chelsea are still very-much in the running for Kante’s signature and I think he’d be an excellent signing for either of the London clubs.
