Liverpool Hoping To Sign £15m-Rated Defender Ahead Of Man Utd & Spurs
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are hoping to complete a deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon….
Liverpool are hoping to fend off competition form the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham to sign Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Sessegnon has been with Fulham since joining the club at just 8-years-old and progressed through the youth ranks before breaking in to the first team set-up at the start of the season.
The 16-year-old has developed in to one of the hottest young properties outside of the Premier League and became the FA Cup’s youngest ever goal-scorer after finding the net during the Cottagers 2-1 win over Cardiff City back in January.
Understandably, the teenager is attracting plenty of attention with the Mirror reporting in February that Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are among the clubs showing a keen interest having watched the £15m-rated defender several times this season.
Jose Mourinho is gearing-up for a busy summer and a new left-back could be on the agenda with Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford in serious doubt while Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino could be eyeing Sessegnon as a potential back-up to Danny Rose at White Hart Lane.
However, the Daily Mail claim that Liverpool are hoping to see-off competition from their rivals to secure the defender’s signature after Jurgen Klopp made Sessegnon one of his prime summer targets.
The Reds boss desperately needs to bring in a new left-back to replace Alberto Moreno at the end of the season with James Milner forced to fill-in at the back for the majority of the campaign.
Sessegnon looks to have a bright future ahead of him so he would be an excellent long-term solution for any of the clubs showing an interest but Fulham will no doubt be keen to keep hold of him, especially if they manage to secure promotion to the Premier League.
The Londoners are in the mix for a play-off spot but I think they’ll struggle to hang on to Sessegnon if they fail to secure a return to the top flight this summer with so many top clubs vying for his signature.
