Arsenal & Man Utd Ready To Battle Tottenham For Signature Of £50m Star

Arsenal and Manchester United are among the teams to have joined Tottenham in the race to sign £50m-rated Everton midfielder Ross Barkley this summer

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on the future of Ross Barkley….

Arsenal and Manchester United are among the teams who have joined Tottenham in the race to sign £50m-rated Everton midfielder Ross Barkley this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Barkley has been at Everton his entire career after coming through their youth system and he emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in British football when he broke in to the first team set-up in 2012.

The midfielder struggled to find consistency in his game during his early years but he rediscovered his best form under Ronald Koeman last season to help the Toffees secure a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League.

However, the 23-year-old is expected to leave Goodison Park this summer as he’s in the final 12 months of his contract and has made it clear to the club he won’t sign an extension.

Barkley has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks but the Daily Mail claim sources close to the player have categorically denied reports that he’s asked to become the clubs highest earner on £150,000-a-week.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of Tottenham’s return to the Champions League and Barkley would be an excellent addition to his young squad at White Hart Lane if the north Londoners could get a deal agreed.

However, it looks like Spurs have some stiff competition as the Daily Mail claim Arsenal and Man Utd are among the clubs who are also showing an interest in signing the England international this summer.

Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger are both looking to add further new faces to their squads ahead of the new campaign and it appears both are keeping a close eye on Barkley’s situation ahead of potential swoops.

The likes of Arsenal, United and Spurs will need to be prepared to dig deep as the newspaper says Everton value the midfielder at around £50m, despite the fact he’s in the final year of his contract.

But any potential move is likely to come during the final stages of the summer window as Barkley has just been ruled out for around 4 weeks after undergoing groin surgery today.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Everton will lower their asking price eventually as they are unlikely to find too many takers prepared to meet their valuation and Barkley has made it clear he wants to leave.
