Tottenham will look to make a real statement of intent for the new season when they welcome defending champions Chelsea to Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.

The Argentinean coach has revealed that Kieran Trippier is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle injury and could be back in contention this weekend.

Trippier missed the opening league win over Newcastle after picking up an ankle injury during pre-season and the right-back is facing a late fitness test to see if he’ll be available for face Chelsea on Sunday.

The England international’s return would be a huge boost to Pochettino as the Spurs boss has limited options at right-back with youngster Kyle Walker-Peters being handed his debut last weekend.

However, Tottenham will continue to be without Danny Rose as the left-back is still working his way back to full fitness from a knee ligament injury that he suffered last season.

Erik Lamela is also still on the sidelines with an on-going hip injury while attacker Georges-Kevin N’Koudou will also miss out again this weekend due to a foot injury.

Tottenham welcome Chelsea to their temporary Wembley home on Sunday so Pochettino will be desperate to get off to a positive start in the stadium after struggling during their European games last season.
