Liverpool have moved a step closer to completing a deal for highly rated Charlton midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. Charlton confirmed that they have given Liverpool permission to speak to Shelvey ahead of a potential £1.7m move to Anfield.

A statement on Charlton’s official website read:

“Charlton have given Premier League side Liverpool permission to speak to 18-year-old midfielder Jonjo Shelvey about a transfer.”

The 18 year old England youth international travelled to Liverpool on Tuesday to discuss personal terms and complete a medical. As part of the deal, Liverpool and Charlton are hoping to set up a strategic partnership involving player development.

The talented youngster has attracted interest from several top flight clubs after breaking into the Addicks first team at just 16, making 48 appearances and scoring 8 goals. But it now seems Liverpool have won the race as they look to invest in the future of the club.
