Chelsea are in back talks with Marseille to sign £7m-rated defender Cesar Azpilicueta, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues tried to sign the Spanish right back back in January after former boss Andre Villas-Boas identified the 22-year-old as a potential signing.

Despite AVB’s exit the clubs interest in the player remains as manager Roberto Di Matteo looks to strengthen the right side of his defence ahead of the new season. Jose Bosingwa left the club on a free transfer at the end of last season while Paulo Ferreira is also expected to leave West London in the coming weeks, leave RDM short at the back.

If the Daily Mail are accurate, the European champions have re-opened talks with Marseille over a proposed £7m deal that would see Azpilicueta move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The former Osasuna defender is currently in London with the Spanish football team to take part in this summers Olympic games as the European champions look to add the Olympic Gold to their ever-growing list of international honours.

Azpilicueta is due to be involved in their opening fixture against Japan on July 26th, and the player has told Sky Sports News that while he’s aware of reports linking him with a move away from Marseille, he remains fully focused on doing his best during the Olympics.

“I have heard the news in recent days.

“It says that I will move from Marseille, but I am calm about my future.

“Now I am only focused on my work with the Spanish team and for the Games in London. My dream is to win the gold medal.”

Chelsea are believed to be keen to tie up a deal quickly but Sky Sports suggest the two clubs are still someway apart in their valuations of the player.

delayment has been always our prob.Plz Chelsika,chop-chop for him..He is still young, and he will for sure fit the foot steps of David Luiz, and G. cahil in Chelsea defence. U did see hw young defenders perform their best sometimes, like what David luiz did in the champoins league final against the gaint Mario Gomez. I have really got a reason to respect David Luiz, Cahil and forth-coming new chelsea young defedeners.
