Arsenal striker Robin van Persie moved a step closer to joining Manchester United last night after talks resumed between the two clubs, according to several reports.

After weeks of deadlock, the Telegraph report that Arsenal and United re-opened negotiations late on Tuesday night with Sir Alex Ferguson ready to make an improved bid for the Dutch striker.

Fergie remains reluctant to pay much more than £15m for 29-year-old van Persie, while Arsenal are demanding at least £20m, but the Independent claim a compromise deal could now be close which would include add-ons.

The Mirror run a similar story but claim the deal could be closer to the £20m Arsenal are asking for, and they also suggest a deal could be sealed within the next 48 hours.

If a deal cannot be reached before the weekend then there is every possibility van Persie will be included in Arsene Wenger’s squad to face Sunderland on Saturday. It’s likely he will start on the bench but could face a difficult reception from the Emirates faithful is he’s introduced at any time.

Gooners everywhere shouldn’t worry. All will come good before the Window closes.
Our wantaway captain will be granted his wish and will go to Utd for more than they want to pay and less than our asking price.
At last we will then move on with our newbies, fresh game plan and new tactics.
Diaby and Wilshere will be back, our young stars are knocking on the first
team door, Arsene is still buying and last summer’s signings are about to enjoy their second experience in the EPL.
A bright season awaits for all loyal players and fans of Arsenal FC.

‘Our wantaway captain will be granted his wish’ He should be held to his contract, since when have the felings of an individual player being greater than the good for the club?

Oh, it’s the “Tales of Rubbin’ Van Palsy” again? Yeah, I know he could go anywhere right now, but for all we know, the “clubs” in question could be Rosenborg and Dundee. What takes the cake is the fact that the press can’t quite pin the numbers down. Is it £15m? £20m? £22m? The compromise is either filthy (15), decent (20), or outrageously improbable (22), but all of the options fail to meet the asking price, which we don’t know for a fact, but which is said to be £25m.
All said, I couldn’t care less. Let him rot on any bench, whether it be Arsenal’s or ManU’s, or Porto’s, for that matter.

I hope Wenger makes Red nose stew. For all of the crap he spoke about Arsenal, he shoul delay the sale as long as possible.

I would prefer if he stays, especially as he has not once said he wants to leave. If go he must, I’d prefer away from England.

I remember the time season when RVP and Adebayor were playing for Arsenal and they both were lazy and wished they were gone the next season. I am seeing RVP being useless evenif he signs for Arsenal anymore. I am sure Giroud and Podolski will do the finishing as long as the midfield keeps feeding them, which is how we play… Go RVP !!! Time to remember what RVP missed on the winning goal against Milan last season …lol
