Wenger Ready To ‘Spend Big’ And Sign Two New Players This Month

By on January 15, 2013

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Arsene Wenger on his January transfer plans.

arsene-wenger

Some interesting comments coming from Arsene Wenger today Gooners, with the boss claiming he’s ready to ‘spend big’ and sign two new faces this month, according to Sky Sports News.

Wenger has come under intense, and largely justified, criticism in recent years for a lack of spending in the transfer windows. We’ve seen several key men sold and replaced by cheaper and inferior players while the club banks big profits every year, so it’s understandable why many supporters feel aggrieved, especially since we pay some of the highest ticket prices in Europe.

However, while many may be disappointed by the clubs ambitions in the transfer market, there can be no denying that Wenger has performed miracles to keep Arsenal in the top-four and playing Champions League football every year while the club built a new 60,000 all-seater stadium. The process of moving from Highbury to the Emirates has understandably placed some financial restrictions on the club.

But Arsene has been speaking to Al Jazeera Sport and claims those restrictions are now at an end and we can now compete in the transfer market and he’s prepared to spend big to land two new players this month:

“My plan is to keep all of the players we have and then to add maybe, if possible, two new players to the squad,”

“We will spend big (again) because we had restricted finances because we had built the stadium and had to pay that back.

“You look at any club who has done that, and they have gone down (in performance).

“We stayed at the top level, yes without winning the Premier League, but we were always at the top level.

“Now we have come out in a much stronger position financially again, so we can spend.

“But our way is a bit like Barcelona as well, to produce the core of the team from inside and add from outside the players who give really a plus.”

“The biggest challenge so far is to convince people we have a good team, that we have good quality and that we lead the club in the right way, because many people doubt that.

“I am convinced this team has a fantastic mentality, fantastic quality and with the right level of confidence, if we can create the momentum, we can be a positive surprise until the end of the season.”

Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

It’s great news…..if true. But sadly the boss is at a point where many fans no longer trust the words that come out his mouth. Nobody will be happier than me if Wenger goes out and spends £30m-£40m+ on two world class players before the window closes, but who really believes he will?

Actions speak louder than words and NOW is the time for action, Arsene. Spend big and deliver a couple of proven top quality players and you’ll soon find a more positive mood around the Emirates. But from experience, I certainly wont be surprised if we fail to bring in new recruits with Wenger claiming he couldn’t find the ‘top, top, top’ quality players he was looking for.

Let’s see if there are any developments in the coming days but if he is going to sign new players, we really need to get them in quickly as we’ve got a packed schedule ahead.

    “There can be no denying that Wenger has performed miracles”

    This is a joke right?
    Miracles?
    Wenger is a fool, he wasted 97 million in the last 2 transfer markets, 3.7 million less than Ferguson and we are a million miles away from UTD at this point.

    He is the reason our best players have been leaving, have Fergie, Harry or Pep had their best players put in transfer requests? No? Didn’t think so.

    Good reason for that, they have the respect of their players, Wengers best could see what he was doing to the club and left.

    i for one can’t blame them, they have a limited time at the top and one shot at acheiving greatness, something they couldn’t do with Wenger.

    WENGER OUT NOW!

    3 problems with his spend big:
    1) He still needs to find super quality players;
    2) All the decent ones have gone;
    3) It is all crap anyway.

    Has he come to his senses?I doubt if he has seen the players to spend the big money on.He’s all grammer and no concrete action. We’re no longer mesmerised by past achievements. The prob is, the world of football has changed n Wenger is still dreaming.Somebody pls shake him out of his reverie.

    Every body knows Arsen Earnest Charles Wenger as he is always after the money. Believe me at the expense of his 90 degree lying potential he is the only one who dashed all our ambition to change our club’s mainly his failurity in to the ground. because he is not getting tired of lying. Exceptional coach!!

    What happens to the finances when Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League?

    Wenger has allowed the team to be depleted for several years and now the neglect is being reflected on the pitch.

    This team is certainly not good enough to challenge the Manchester clubs and it is becoming less likely that they can even finish in the top 5.

    Wenger did waste 97M on crap players and now he wants to make others believe Arsenal have ‘quality’.He wants to convincehimself and others that he bought quality and wants to stick with these crap. He’s not prepaed to accept that the game is up and tht this team he bought or nutured is merely midtable. He is actualy flogging a dead horse. He has to be bold enough and accept that they are just not good enough at the top leveland sar offloading-and quick.

    Yea he does lie an yes are team is weaker then ever and I can’t stand it. But u need to remember spending 600 mil on stadium is smart thinking now we have second biggest club in England and after 5-6 years in the red we can finally afford to buy who we want so have faith we got the cash now so no excuse for him not to buy if he still don’t then it’s up to us to kick him out. Remember this club ain’t goin no where without the fans are money is the most important to them.

    wenger said nothing to be hopeful about, he used the words “maybe” and “if possible” and in the end he stuck to his old gun saying the team has quality, when wenger starts talking like this, he is not ready to bring in any player of outstanding repute. We may see some below average players come in however… Just wish this was a bad dream that would end when i wake up.
