Some interesting quotes from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in the Mirror with the boss hinting he may wait until the summer to sign his top transfer targets.

We’ve suffered our worst start to a Premier League season under the Frenchman, we currently sit sixth in the table – 6 points off fourth place – and were dumped out the League Cup by League 2 Bradford, so understandably many Arsenal fans are expected the club to go out and strengthen in January.

But we’re over two weeks in and we’re still waiting for a new arrival at the Emirates and we may be waiting all the way until the summer judging by the managers latest comments.

While Arsene has said that he is willing to buy if he can find the right player, he claims he would prefer to do his business at the end of the season and has already lined up his summer targets.

In a further hint he may not sign anybody this month, Wenger then claimed bringing in new players wouldn’t guarantee us a top-four finish – something he feels is achievable with the squad he currently has at his disposal. Quoted in the Mirror, Wenger said:

“We can strengthen everywhere. At the moment, it is more important that the team remains focused. If we find something, we will do it. But I prefer to do business in the summer and have identified players for then.

“Even if you buy anybody, you have no guarantee that you will be in the top four.

“You think we cannot get into the top four as we are now? I think we can.”

While it’s not impossible for us to finish in the top-four with our current squad, I think it’s safe to say we’re an injury or two away from disaster. The squad is too thin in certain areas. For me, we need a versatile defender who can cover at centre back and left back in particular, a defensive midfielder and a striker.

An experienced goalkeeper is also needed in my opinion, but I would be satisfied if we bring in two new faces before the window closes. Will Wenger do it? I think he will, despite the above comments, but i think we’ll be waiting right until the last days of the window.
