Bale Held Talks With United After Champions Made £100m Bid To Hijack Madrid Deal

Despite the summer transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, Gareth Bale held talks over a potential £100m move to Man Utd.

Gareth Bale held talks over a potential move to Old Trafford after Manchester United submitted a sensational £100m bid to try and derail his transfer to Real Madrid, according to the Mirror.

The future of the Welshman filled the back pages for much of the summer with him constantly linked with a move to the Bernabeu and it became of matter of when, not if, he became a Madrid player.

The 24-year-old eventually sealed his move to Real in a reported £86m transfer but the Mirror claim that Premier League champions Manchester United tried to hijack the move by tabling a world-record £100m bid of their own.

The report suggests that Bale flew back from Spain – where he was waiting to be given the go-ahead to complete his move to Madrid – to hold talks with United officials, who were desperate to back new boss David Moyes by bringing in a marquee name in the summer.

However, Bale snubbed the advances of United to seal a ‘dream’ move to Madrid, with Tottenham seemingly selling the attacker to the Spaniard’s for £14m less than the Red Devils were prepared to pay.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez revealed on Tuesday that they made their move for Bale after United had tabled an opening bid.

“Tottenham did not want to sell and we respected that.

“Then, when we found out that Manchester United would be making an offer, we made our own.

“Since his childhood he had the dream of playing for Real Madrid and he asked us to make it possible for him to come.”

“Bale was cheap. The signing of Gareth Bale is the model of Real Madrid, signing the best player in the world at this moment, and that is what I say. Perez is quoted as saying by the Mirror

The Mirror claim United’s initial bid was for £60m, which was rejected by Spurs in July. Madrid then agreed a fee of £86m before United came in with a late £100m bid, but Bale opted for a switch to the Bernabeu.

United eventually signed Marouane Fellaini from Everton on transfer deadline day but he wasn’t the big-money signing many fans had hoped for.

Absolute rubbish! Nowhere does it say that Bale “held talks” with Man Utd. As per the quotes from Bale himself, his agent and Peres, he only wanted to play for Real Madrid. Quote “since his childhood he had the dream of playing for Real Madrid and he asked us to make it possible for him to come.” There is absolutely zero chance that Levy would have sold him to Man Utd anyway.
