Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has confirmed that Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna has snubbed a move to the San Siro in favour of staying in the Premier League, according to International Business Times.

The Frenchman’s future has been a much-talked about subject in recent months with his contract set to expire in June and he’s yet to agree terms with Arsenal over an extension.

Understandably there is a lot of interest in the 31-year-old’s services with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all understood to be keen on keeping him in England, while Inter Milan were among the clubs to offer him a lucrative move abroad.

However, Inter’s president Erick Thohir has revealed that Sagna has rejected a move to Italy after deciding to stay in the Premier League, but it’s still unclear which club he’ll be playing for next season.

“As for Sagna, he has decided to stay in the Premier League,” Thohir is quoted as saying by the IBT.

Arsenal fans will be keen for the club to find a breakthrough in talks and persuade Sagna to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium. He’s still an important part of Arsene Wenger’s first team plans but the longer talks drag on for, the more it looks like he could be leaving on a free transfer this summer.

The Daily Star was one of several newspapers to claim on Tuesday that Sagna was set to reject Arsenal’s final two-year contract offer and a move to Inter in favour of a switch to the Etihad Stadium when his deal expires at the end of the season.

To lose him to a domestic rival would be a big blow to the Gunners, who have seen several first team players leave over the past few years with the likes of Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri all joining City and reports now indicate that Sagna could be set to follow.

Arsenal still have time to strike a deal as technically Sagna shouldn’t be allowed to talk to any other Premier League team until July, but the closer we get to his contract expiration date the more Gunners fans will be expecting the worse.
