Arsenal have made the first move in the race to sign Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez after making an opening €25m Bid to Barcelona for the attacker, according to reports.

Sanchez is one of the most in-demand players in this summers window after Barcelona made it clear they are willing to sell the Chilean attacker as he doesn’t feature in new boss Luis Enrique’s first team plans next season.

The Catalans sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta admitted yesterday that there has been a lot of interest shown in the 25-year-old and while they didn’t confirm any names, widespread reports have suggested that Arsenal and Liverpool are leading the chase for his signature.

It seems like the Gunners have now stolen a march on Brendan Rodgers men with the Metro citing reports coming out of Spain that claim Arsene Wenger has made an opening offer of €25m (£19.4m) and Barcelona are now weighing-up whether to accept it.

You’d expect Liverpool will respond with an offer of their own and reports suggest they may demand Sanchez in any deal involving Luis Suarez, but it might not do any good as the newspaper claims that Sanchez isn’t interested in a move to Anfield and has already made it clear he wants to join Arsenal if he leaves the Nou Camp this summer.

Whether that turns out to be the case or not remains to be seen and things can change very quickly in football. Plus, the player may want to move to North London but that will count for nothing if Arsenal aren’t able to agree a deal with Barcelona, so there’s still a long way to go before Sanchez joins Wenger’s side.

It’s certainly gearing up to be an interesting chase and one things for sure is that if either Arsenal or Liverpool are able to land the Chilean international, they will have got their hands on an excellent player.

Sanchez may not be a firm favourite at Barca, but he still chipped in with 21 goals and 15 assists last season and he continued his impressive form at the World Cup, so he’ll provide a real threat in the final third wherever he ends up this summer.
