Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Trio Could Face Liverpool + Ozil Latest

Arsene Wenger hopes to have three first team players back in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool while he also gave an update on the likes of Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal will be looking to build on their recent good form when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Here’s a team news update from Gooner Mac…

Theo Walcott

Ahead of this weekends game with Liverpool, Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a team news and injury update with the latest on a number of our injured players.

The boss has revealed that Nacho Monreal could return to the squad after missing the last two weeks with a foot injury he picked up against Southampton at the start of the month.

Wenger has also stated that Theo Walcott is another player who could return to the squad after recovering from a groin injury that’s seen him sit out the last five weeks. The attacker only started full training today so the boss will make a late decision over whether to take him to Anfield.

In what could be a triple injury boost, Wenger is also hopefully that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be passed fit despite suffering a minor groin complaint against Newcastle last weekend. The 21-year-old is not training at the moment but he’ll be given a late fitness test on Saturday to see if he can be in the squad.

Goalkeeper David Ospina is back in full training so could make the bench against Liverpool while Tomas Rosicky is due back next week after missing the last three games with a thigh injury.

Wenger also gave a small update on our other injured stars, confirming that Jack Wilshere [ankle], Mesut Ozil [knee], Mikel Arteta [calf], Laurent Koscielny [calf] and Aaron Ramsey [hamstring] are ‘progressing as planned’, but will of course miss the Liverpool game.

The boss told Arsenal.com today:

on the team news…

There’s a slight chance of Monreal being available and a very slight chance for Walcott. We hope that Oxlade-Chamberlain will be fit. We’ll see that on Saturday.

on Theo Walcott…

He is back in training today [Thursday]. But only today. I might take him, I don’t know yet until he’s back to full training. Let’s see.

on Oxlade-Chamberlain…

That’s what we’ll see on Saturday after a test. He’s not in training at the moment.

on Ospina and Rosicky…

Ospina is back in full training and Rosicky should be back next week.

on Wilshere, Ozil, Koscielny, Ramsey and Arteta…

All out. They’re all progressing as planned.

Fingers crossed Oxlade-Chamberlain passes his late fitness test as we’re going to be short of options in midfield if he doesn’t. With Wilshere, Arteta and Ramsey all out, The Ox has partnered Mathieu Flamini in the middle of the park in recent games and we have few alternatives to call-upon if he’s also ruled out.
