Chelsea officials are in talks with Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao about a surprise switch to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to reports.
Falcao has just endured a disappointing season while on loan at United from AS Monaco with the striker managing just 4 goals in 29 appearances during his time at Old Trafford.
After such a poor spell, it was no surprise when Louis van Gaal confirmed the Red Devils had rejected the chance to make his loan move permanent and Falcao headed back to Monaco facing an uncertain future.
The Ligue 1 outfit are keen to offload the Colombian international again either on loan or on a permanent basis in order to get his £265,000-a-week wages off their books and it looks like the striker could be heading for a return to England.
The Mirror claim that Chelsea are holding formal talks with Falcao’s camp about a potential switch to Stamford Bridge with super-agent Jorge Mendes – who represents both Falcao and Jose Mourinho – trying to broker the deal.
The newspaper suggests that the 29-year-old accepts he won’t be an automatic first team regular at the Blues and is so keen to join the Premier League champions, he’s willing to take a huge pay cut in order to ensure a deal goes through smoothly.
Mourinho is now believed to be giving serious consideration to taking Falcao to West London with the striker keen to have his future resolved one way or the other before the Copa America kicks off later this month.
Chelsea are on the look-out for another front-man to replace the departing Didier Drogba but I must admit, it would be something of a surprise if Mourinho opted to go for Falcao given his disastrous spell at Man Utd.
However, on the other hand, it could turn out to be a master-stroke form the so-called ‘Special One’ as if he could get Falcao back to anywhere near his best form, he’d have another world class striker at his disposal.

Falcao has been plagued by injury over the past two years but if he could regain his full fitness again, then we may see the Colombian back to the kind of form that’s seen him score 200 goals in 305 games throughout his career.
I still think it’s a big risk for the champions to take, but it has the potential to be a very screwd move IF Falcao can get back to proving he’s a top class striker – which is something we rarely saw during his time with United.
