Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao has agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of a potential move from Monaco this summer, according to the Mirror.
Falcao endured a hugely disappointing time on loan at United last season with form and fitness issues meaning the Colombian international managed to score just 4 goals in his 29 appearances.
Few were surprised when Louis van Gaal rejected the chance to make the 29-year-old’s move a permanent one but there were some raised eyebrows when speculation emerged linking the beleaguered striker with a move to Chelsea.
Reports at the end of May claimed that Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes – who also represents Jose Mourinho – was trying to broker a deal with the Premier League champions with the striker supposedly keen to prove he can cut it in English football.
It seems a deal is now close to completion as the Mirror are reporting today that Falcao has now agreed personal terms with Chelsea after taking a huge cut on his existing £265,000-a-week deal with Monaco.
The newspaper suggests that Chelsea want to take Falcao on loan for a season with no fixed permanent deal in 12 months time, but Monaco are hoping to have a buy-clause inserted that would see the Blues pay £30m for the striker next summer.
It looks like the Ligue 1 club have learned their lesson from the United deal as Falcao’s stock has fallen following his 12 months at Old Trafford and they don’t want to be stuck with the player again if he endures a similar tough time in West London.
However, the Mirror claim that a compromise is expected to be found and Falcao is almost certain to link up with the Premier League champions after the Copa America this summer.
The news comes shortly after Mourinho told reporters that he is willing to ‘help’ Falcao try and get back to his best after a poor spell at United.
“It really hurts me that people in England believe that Falcao is the guy they saw at Manchester United,”
“He’s a player I know, one that I’ve followed since Atletico Madrid and if I can help Falcao arrive at his level I will do it.” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Express
Mourinho could do with bringing in another forwardthis summer to replace the departed Didier Drogba but I personally think it’s something of a surprise he’s turned to Falcao given how disappointing he was at United.
On the other hand, it could turn out to be a stroke of genius from the Portuguese coach as Falcao was one of the deadlist strikers in world football before his knee injury in 2013. His career stats of 200 goals in 305 games certainly prove he knows where the goal is.

If Mourinho could get the former Altetico Madrid man back to his best in front of goal, then he could turn out to be a very shrewd signing by Chelsea, but it would still be a risky piece of business.
We’ll have to wait and see if they can get a deal agreed with Monaco first, but it looks as though we could see Falcao back in the Premier League again next season and who’d back against Mourinho getting the best out of him?
