Man Utd Agree Personal Terms With La Liga Star Ahead Of Potential £42.5m Move
Man Utd have agreed personal terms with Sergio Ramos after tabling a £42.5m offer but Florentino Perez is still hoping to convince him to stay at Real Madrid
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, more on Man Utd’s pursuit of Sergio Ramos…
Manchester United have verbally agreed personal terms with Sergio Ramos after tabling a €60m (£42.5m) offer but Florentino Perez is still hoping to convince the Spaniard to stay at Real Madrid, according to AS.
Ramos has been at the Bernabeu for over ten years but despite playing a key role in helping them win their tenth European cup in 2014, the centre-backs future has been called into question after contract extension talks stalled earlier this year.
Madrid are struggling to match the 29-year-old’s demands and it’s led to intense speculation over a potential move to Old Trafford with Sky Sports News reporting at the end of June that Manchester United had tabled an opening £28.6m bid with Ramos understood to be keen on making the move.
The initial offer was rejected by Madrid but Spanish outlet AS claim that United have since submitted an improved £42.5m bid and have supposedly reached a verbal agreement with the defender over what he’d earn if he was to complete a move to Old Trafford.
The report doesn’t state the precise details of the contract offer, but AS have previously reported earlier this month that United had offered Ramos a five-year deal worth around £8m-per-season.
It’s not known whether Madrid have knocked back United’s latest £42.5m offer but the Express are one of several outlets who’ve suggested that the La Liga giants are demanding £62m for Ramos this summer, so unless their position has changed drastically, I still think United’s bid will come up short.
We’ll have to await further developments and it’s becoming one of the transfer sagas of the summer but things could finally come to a head when Madrid travel to China this weekend.
Real head to Guangzhou to take on Inter Milan on Monday and AS claim that president Florentino Perez plans to have face-to-face talks with Ramos while they are in China to resolve his future once and for all.
There are still rumours that Ramos is determined to leave this summer but as the centre-back has two years remaining on his contract, Madrid are in no immediate need to sell so it looks like United will either have to meet their asking price or look elsewhere for a defender.

I’d personally be shocked if the Red Devils agreed to pay in excess of £60m for a 29-year-old defender so unless Ramos can convince Perez to lower their demands, I just don’t see how a deal can be agreed this summer.
