Tottenham will look to keep pace with leaders Leicester City when they take on Manchester United at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Second-placed Spurs dropped seven points adrift of the Foxes after drawing 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield last weekend and with Leicester taking on Sunderland in Sunday’s early kick-off, the gap could be as much as ten points by the time this game begins.

With just six games remaining, the North Londoners know they can’t afford any more slip-ups so victory over United is vital if Mauricio Pochettino’s men are the remain in the title race.

However, the visitors arrive in the capital in desperate need of a win themselves as Louis van Gaal’s men look to try and break in to the top four during the closing stages of the season.

A 1-0 win over Everton last time out kept United in touch of the Champions League qualification places but Manchester City opened-up a four-point lead after beating WBA this evening so the Red Devils need a win to close the gap tomorrow.

Team news

Spurs are set to welcome Jan Vertonghen back in to the squad after he finally overcame a knee injury that he suffered three months ago but the Belgian international may have to bide his time to break in to the first team as Kevin Wimmer has performed well in his absence.

Striker Clinton Njie has also recovered from a knee problem and could force his way in to the squad while Erik Lamela is set to return after recovering from a minor knock that he picked up on international duty.

As for United, Ashley Young and Phil Jones are both expected to be available for selection after playing for the under-21’s last Monday but neither player is expected to start tomorrow.

Wayne Rooney is back in training and will play for the under-21’s on Monday after recovering from a knee injury but this game will come too soon for the skipper.

Adnan Januzaj is out with a hamstring injury so he joins Bastian Schweinsteiger, Luke Shaw and Will Keane in missing the trip to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham 2-1 Man Utd: United have an excellent record against Tottenham at the Lane having not lost on any of their last 14 league visits but this is a very different Spurs side to recent years. Pochettino has created a very useful team and they will be desperate for a win to keep them in the title hunt, so I think the hosts will just edge this one.
