Paul Merson Offers His Prediction For Man Utd’s FA Cup Clash With Everton
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has offered his predicted score ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final with Everton on Saturday afternoon.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has offered his predicted score ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final with Everton on Saturday afternoon.
United warmed up for the game with a routine 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night that kept them in touch with the top four and in contention to qualify for the Champions League next season.
However, Louis van Gaal’s men will now turn their attention to the FA Cup as they look for victory which will see them go one step closer to winning the trophy for the first time since 2004.
Everton’s preparations couldn’t have gone much worse after they were thrashed 4-0 at Anfield by Liverpool in midweek so the pressure is firmly on Roberto Martinez’s shoulders heading to Wembley.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson feels the Everton boss has got his selection policy all wrong over the past week and is tipping United to book their place in the final with a 2-1 win tomorrow evening.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:
I don’t see how Roberto Martinez can last if he loses at Wembley. He has got things horribly wrong this week. He should have played his strongest team and won against Southampton and then told fans he had to rest everyone against Liverpool in preparation for the semi-final. Instead he rested everyone against Southampton and got booed off and then played his best team against Liverpool and got battered. For the first time he looked lost on the sidelines, the fans have turned and I don’t see how he can hold on if they lose. I felt sorry for him but it’s a situation of his own making, this is a good team that is nowhere.
United will win at Wembley, I can’t see Everton stopping them. Marcus Rashford is some player and his goal against Villa was as good as it gets – he’ll be a top-drawer player. Three months ago you would have backed Everton to win this game all day long, not now.
PAUL PREDICTS: Everton 1-2 Man Utd
United come in to the game in good form having won their last three games in all competitions so they should certainly be favourites against an Everton side that have injury problems and look low on confidence.
If like Merson you feel United will win tomorrow, then….
