The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool and Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Michy Batshuayi…
Liverpool and Tottenham have been boosted in their pursuit of Michy Batshuayi after Marseille’s caretaker boss Franck Passi confirmed the £25m-rated striker will be sold this summer, according to the Express.
Batshuayi has emerged as one of the hottest young properties in French football after scoring 21 goals in all competitions for a struggling Marseille side that’s on course to finish in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 table.
The 22-year-old’s impressive form has attracted interest from the Premier League with the Express claiming that Liverpool and Tottenham are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the striker this summer.
The English duo have now been handed a boost as Marseille’s caretaker boss Franck Passi has suggested that Batshuayi will leave the club this summer. He’s quoted by the Express as saying:
“Everyone knows he [Batshuayi] will go. It is in the specification of the club.”
Batshuayi joined Marseille from Standard Liege in 2014 and only signed a new long-term contract in January but now it appears he’s set to secure a big-money move this summer with the Express suggesting he’s rated at around £25m.
Liverpool should have no problem paying that kind of money and Jurgen Klopp could be eyeing Batshuayi as a potential replacement for Christian Beneteke with the Belgian international expected to leave Anfield this summer.
However, the Merseysiders will face stiff competition from Tottenham as the North Londoners look to strengthen their squad ahead of their assault on the Champions League next season, and Mauricio Pochettino has recently confirmed his interest in Batshuayi as he looks to bring in a new striker to support Harry Kane.
“We are looking for a striker this summer, that’s clear,” Pochettino is quoted as saying by the Express.
“Michy’s a young player who has a lot of talent. He is on the list of many clubs.
“We have quite a few people who have given us information about him. He has good potential. We’ll see.”
