Arsenal Steal March On Man Utd & Chelsea After Making £51m Striker Bid

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have made their move for Alvaro Morata….
Arsenal have stolen a march on Manchester United and Chelsea after tabling a £51m offer for Spanish international striker Alvaro Morata, according to the Express.
Morata joined Juventus from Real Madrid two years ago having failed to establish himself at the Bernabeu and the forward has enjoyed his time in Italy having helped secure consecutive Serie A titles as well as reaching the final of the 2014/15 Champions League.
However, the 23-year-old’s future in Turin is in doubt as the Guardian reported last week that Madrid have decided to activate a £23.6m buyback clause that they inserted in to his contract when he was sold in 2014.
The Spanish giants are then planning to immediately sell Morata on to the highest bidder with the newspaper claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all showing a keen interest in luring him to the Premier League.
But it looks as though Arsenal have now stolen a march on their rivals and the Express are citing a report coming out of Italy from Corriere dello Sport that claims the Gunners have now made a huge £51m offer for the striker after holding negotiations directly with Madrid.
Arsene Wenger admitted over the weekend that he’ll be forced in to the market for another striker after losing Danny Welbeck for nine months and it appears the French boss has now identified Morata as the man he wants.
If these reports are accurate, then Wenger is willing to smash the Arsenal transfer record in order to sign the Spanish hitman but his goals record doesn’t suggest Morata will be the prolific striker many Gooners have been crying out for.
No doubt Morata is a huge talent who has plenty of qualities but he only managed 7 Serie A goals this season and 11 in all competitions, while he only scored 11 in his 52 appearances during a four-year spell in the Madrid first team squad, so he’s hardly lethal in front of goal.
However, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and United must see something special in Morata if they are willing to pay big money to sign him this summer and it’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up.

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is expected to overhaul his squad this summer and a new striker is going to be needed with Radamel Falcao heading back to Monaco while Loic Remy is also set to find a new club, and Conte was the man who originally took Morata to Juve in 2014.
You can’t discount United from the race though as they also need another striker to help ease the load on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial now that Wayne Rooney looks set to move in to a midfield role at Old Trafford.
