Arsenal In Pole Position Ahead Of Chelsea To Sign Serie A Striker

Arsenal are in pole position ahead of Chelsea to sign Alvaro Morata after his agent held talks with Real Madrid ahead of his proposed return to the Bernabeu

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are tipped to sign Alvaro Morata…

Arsenal are in pole position to wrap-up a deal to sign Alvaro Morata after his agent held talks with Real Madrid ahead of his proposed return to the Bernabeu this summer, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Morata left Madrid two years ago after failing to establish himself at the club and has enjoyed his time with Juventus having helped the Turin giants win successive Serie A titles as well as reach the Champions League final in 2015.

However, the Spanish international’s time in Serie A looks to be coming to an abrupt end as Spanish outlet AS claim that Madrid have decided to activate a €30m (£23m) buyback clause that was inserted in to his contract when he was sold in 2014.

The La Liga club will then immediately sell Morata to the highest bidder with the Express reporting that both Arsenal and Chelsea have shown a keen interest in luring the striker to the Premier League this summer.

In-coming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy in the transfer market as he looks to overhaul the squad and a striker to support Diego Costa is likely to be a priority as Radamel Falcao has gone back to Monaco while Loic Remy is likely to find a new club.

Conte knows Morata well as he was in charge at Juventus when they signed him back in 2014 and it looks as though the Italian tactician is keen to be reunited in West London.

However, Chelsea have some work to do as AS claim that it’s Arsenal who are in pole position to sign Morata after the players agent, Juanma Lopez, held talks with Madrid officials on Monday where he confirmed the striker’s preference was to play in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger is on the look out for a new front-man after losing Danny Welbeck for nine months due to injury and Morata has long been linked with a move to the Emirates, so it looks as though the Gunners could finally get their hands on him.

Morata is by no means a prolific marksman as he only scored 12 goals in all competitions for Juve this season but he’s only young and has all the attributes to become a top class striker over the coming years.

We’ll have to wait for Madrid to officially re-sign the player before any potential move to England happens but it looks as though Arsenal are favourites ahead of Chelsea to snap him up if he does decide to come to these shores.
