The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool enter the race for Sadio Mane…
Liverpool have joined Manchester United & Tottenham in the race to sign Southampton attacker Sadio Mane this summer, according to the Guardian.
Mane joined the Saints from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014 and after an encouraging debut season in the Premier League, the 24-year-old excelled this season after scoring 15 goals and providing 9 assists in his 43 appearances in all competitions.
The Senegalese international’s impressive form has attracted interest from some of the Premier League’s most powerful clubs with the Guardian claiming that Manchester United and Tottenham among those who’ve already shown a keen interest in luring Mane away from St Marys this summer.
New United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market rebuilding the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal and the Red Devils could certainly do with a threat like Mane in attack after only scoring 49 goals in the league this season.
Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino is also keen on the former Metz star as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League next season after guiding the North Londoners to an impressive third-placed finish this campaign.
However, the duo will now face stiff competition as the Guardian claim that Liverpool have now joined the race for Mane’s signature and are weighing up a move for the attacker after seeing their attempts to land Mario Gotze stall.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new attacker and the newspaper says that the Merseysiders were confident of signing Gotze for £20m until the German international announced he was determined to remain at Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga champions have hinted that Gotze might be better off finding a new club this summer so Liverpool could still pull off a deal, but for now Klopp is on the look-out for alternatives and it appears Mane is on his radar.
Southampton are likely to demand much more than the reported £20m Gotze could be bought for as he remains under contract until 2018 but Mane has much-needed experience of playing in England, which is invaluable when splashing out big money on new signings.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it looks like there could be a three-way battle over Mane’s signature and I’d personally be surprised if Southampton managed to keep hold of the attacker this summer.
