The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Nemanja Matic wants to join Manchester United…
Chelsea have been rocked after Nemanja Matic told new boss Antonio Conte that he wants to leave and be reunited with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United this summer, according to the Sun.
Matic was the first player Mourinho signed when he began his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge in 2014 after bringing the midfielder back to West London following a short stint at Benfica.
The 27-year-old was outstanding during his first season back at the club and played a key role in reclaiming the Premier League title in 2015 before enduring a difficult second season where he fell out-of-favour during the second half of the campaign following Mourinho’s departure.
The so-called ‘Special One’ was confirmed as the new United manager last month and reports have suggested he’s keen to lure Matic to Old Trafford with the Daily Mail claiming earlier this week that initial enquiries had been made over a potential deal.
Mourinho needs a new defensive midfielder as Michael Carrick is out of contract while Bastian Schweinsteiger endured an injury-plagued debut season in the Premier League and Matic is obviously a player the Portuguese coach knows well.
It looks like United have now been handed a major boost in their pursuit as the Sun are reporting today that Matic has now informed new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte that he wants to join United and be reunited with Mourinho.
It’s unclear whether Matic is part of Conte’s plans for next season but the Blues have been linked with a number of central midfielders in recent weeks so perhaps the Italian tactician would be open to the idea of cashing-in on the Serbian international.

However, whether Chelsea officials would be willing to do business with a direct rival like United is another question, especially now Mourinho is in charge as they won’t want their former boss raiding the club for their players.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I’d personally be surprised if anything came of this as I just don’t see Chelsea agreeing to sell Matic to United this summer.
