Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge came off the bench to score an injury time winner as England went top of Group B with a 2-1 win over Wales this afternoon.
The first half was largely a forgettable affair from an England point-of-view as they struggled to create clear-cut chances with Raheem Sterling missing the best opportunity for the Three Lions.
Wales made England pay for not making the most of their possession as Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale lashed home a stunning 35-yard free-kick shortly before the break – although Joe Hart will no doubt feel he should have done better.
Roy Hodgson made two changes at half-time with Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge coming on for Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane and the substitutes made all the difference during the second forty-five minutes.
Vardy levelled things up in the 56th minute when he pounced on a loose ball in the box with the referee doing well to spot the striker wasn’t in an offside position as the ball call off Wales skipper Ashley Williams.
It looked as though England would have to settle for a point but Liverpool hitman Sturridge stepped-up to win it in dramatic fashion in injury time to secure a vital three points that see Hodgson’s men move top of Group B.
