Chelsea In Pole Position Ahead Of Arsenal & Man Utd To Seal Deal For £64m Striker
Chelsea are in pole position ahead of Arsenal and Man Utd in the race to sign Alvaro Morata this summer but Real Madrid are demanding £64m for the striker
The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea move in to pole position for Alvaro Morata…
Chelsea are in pole position ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Alvaro Morata this summer but Real Madrid are demanding £64m for the striker, according to Marca.
Morata has become one of the most sought after strikers in the transfer market this summer after Madrid activated a £23m buyback clause that was agreed when the player was sold to Juventus in 2014.
There has been plenty of speculation as to whether Morata would stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu or find another club but it appears that with Karim Benzema the established first choice striker, Madrid will cash-in and sell him at a huge profit.
And it looks like the 23-year-old could be heading to the Premier League as Marca claim that Chelsea are now in pole position ahead of Arsenal and Man Utd to secure a deal for the striker this summer.
The Spanish outlet suggests that the Blues are now in advanced negotiations and hope to secure a deal over the coming days, although the fee could be a major sticking point as Madrid are understood to be demanding a whopping €75m – which now equates to around £64m.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be prepared to pay that kind of money for Morata but it would be a huge outlay for a striker who’s yet to score more than 15 goals in all competitions in any season since turning pro.
However, incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte knows Morata well having been the man in charge at Juventus when he moved to Italy two years ago so it looks as though the 46-year-old coach is looking to be reunited at Stamford Bridge.
Michy Batshuayi has already joined Chelsea but with Radamel Falcao and Alexandre Pato both left the club following unsuccessful loan spells and Conte expected to play with two strikers next season, the Blues need to bring in another option up front and it appears Morata is the man Conte wants.
The news will come as a blow to United but particularly to Arsenal as Arsene Wenger is desperately trying to bring in a new top class striker this summer to offer competition to Olivier Giroud next season.

The Frenchman has already missed out on Jamie Vardy and there is no way the Gunners boss can compete if Chelsea agree to pay Madrid’s reported £64m asking price so it looks as though Wenger is going to have to move on to other targets.
