Chelsea Willing To Pay £110m To Sign Super-Star After Holding Talks With Agent
Chelsea have held talks with Lionel Messi’s agent about a sensational move to Stamford Bridge and are willing to tempt Barcelona with a world record £110m offer
The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Lionel Messi….
Chelsea have held talks with Lionel Messi’s agent about a sensational move to Stamford Bridge and are willing to tempt Barcelona with a world record £110m offer, according to the Sun.
Messi has been with Barca his entire career having come through the youth system following his move from Argentina in 2000 and has developed in to arguably the greatest ever player in modern-day football during his 16 years in Spain.
However, the 29-year-old’s future at the Nou Camp has been the subject of much speculation in recent months as he’s been embroiled in a tax evasion case which led to him being handed a 21-month suspended jail sentence earlier this week and ordered to pay £3m in fines.
Messi won’t spend any time behind bars but the Sun claim that the player feels Barcelona could have been more supportive to him during the court case as he feels he’s been victimised by the Spanish authorities while he’s also understood to be angered by how he was portrayed in the Spanish media.
The uncertainty has seemingly led to interest from the Premier League as the Sun claims that Chelsea have followed Manchester City in holding talks with Messi’s agent, who is also his father, about a potential move to England after being alerted to the fact that the striker may decide to quit Barca.
The newspaper says that Messi’s father met with Roman Abramovich on board his superyacht within the last ten days where it was made clear the Blues would be willing to pay a world record £110m fee to secure his signature should the striker decide he wants a new challenge.
It’s also claimed that Chelsea are now in pole position ahead of City to land Messi as they are prepared to tempt the Argentinean super-star to west London with a contract worth in excess of £600,000-a-week.
It’s difficult to know how much truth there is behind this report as there is so much speculation flying around these days but obviously it would be a sensational coup if Chelsea could somehow lure Messi to the Premier League.
It would be a dream to see the South American playing in England at some point in his career and Chelsea are one of the few clubs who could afford him, so it wouldn’t come as a great surprise if Messi’s agent/father has spent time speaking with Abramovich recently about a potential move either this summer or in the future.

However, I think we’ll see Messi end up staying at Barcelona and I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw him handed a new deal by the Catalans over the coming months. The player’s agent is probably seeing what else is on offer from other clubs to use as leverage in negotiations and let’s not forget Neymar has recently been awarded with a bumper new deal, so I expect Messi to follow suit.
